For 40 years, my father, Robert McKenzie, treated patients with plantar fasciitis in his Auckland clinic. Thousands of feet. Thousands of insoles. And always the same conclusion: what was available simply wasn't good enough.
Soft cushions that flattened after a few weeks. Generic insoles that ignored proper arch support. Cortisone injections that masked the pain without addressing the cause.
My father was searching for something different — a solution that actively supported the foot with every step, rather than simply cushioning it.
When he retired in 2019, I discovered an unfinished prototype in his workshop. Next to it were sketches, calculations, and handwritten notes about materials and biomechanics. He had spent years working on it without ever talking about it.
Robert McKenzie passed away in 2021. What he started, I continued together with a team of biomechanical engineers and foot specialists. We tested over 30 materials, developed 12 prototypes, and spent 14 months refining every detail.
The result: TrueSteps® Relief Insoles.
